Taylors crowned LPA Pub League Champions 2019

Last Thursday Paddys Bar from Carrick travelled to Taylors Bar in Drumsna to play them in the deciding leg of the 2019 Pub League final. On the first Night Taylors came from 5-4 down to win 8-4, on the second night Paddys did the same coming from 6-4 down to win the final 4 frames and win 8-6. With both teams winning a night each a deciding night was needed, race to 8 winner takes all. The final started with Paddys having a +1 handicap based on county players, Niall Sweeney from Taylors beat Barry Dessie Gardiner in the first, 1.1. Clayton Good battled hard to win his frame vs Kevin McWeeney, Dave Mc Weeney had a good finish to beat Barry Singleton, 2.2. Peter Devanney of Paddys had a great finish to beat Brendan Murray, 3.2. Taylors took the last of the session with JJ beating Stephen Deely in a tight tactical frame.

It was 3.3 going into the 2nd session a session of doubles. Taylors led with Sweeney and Murray while Paddys had Devanney and Deely, the taylors lads took control early and had a good finish to win the first. 4.3 the second frame didn’t go as well for the Sweeney / Murray double as they were beat by Enda Egan/ Peter Devanney, 4.4. The final frame of doubles between Kevin McWeeney/ JJ McVeigh and Stephen Deely/ Dessie Gardiner, Mcweeney/ McVeigh had a very clinical finish with the cue ball on a string to put taylors in front 5.4 going into the final session, still all to play for. Taylors started the session strong with Sweeney beating Barry Singleton and Kevin McWeeney beating Peter Devanney, Taylors Hit the hill 7.4. Paddys didn’t lie down as Deely fought hard to beat Dave MCWeeney in a very tactical frame, 7.5. Benny Murray vs Dessie Gardiner, Murray went for a finish early with 2 shots but sat his last ball to win, Dessie battled back laying snookers but Murray kept getting a hit not giving Gardiner the 2 shots he was looking for. Eventually Murray escaped from a snooker and potted his ball landing on the black and potting it to get Taylors to the Magical 8 frames and crowning them 2019 Pub League Champions. Well Done to Paddys on a great match, they fought hard throughout and showed great character as they played in the final and reaching the final. Well Done to Taylors, Crowned Pub League Champions for the 4th time in 7 years, they played clinically throughout the final taking their chances to be crowned champions. The Man of the Match award was a very tough decision, Niall Sweeney had won his 4 on the night, Peter Devanney played well throughout the final taking out a brilliant finish in the first session. But the Man of the Match was awarded to Kevin MCWeeney on some of the Key frames he won the the 7 frames he won throughout the final.
