Taylors Drumsna are Shield Champions 2017/2018

Last Sunday night seen Taylors Drumsna crowned The Oliver Lee Shield Champions in their home venue in Drumsna.

Two weeks earlier, Taylors had travelled to Paddys Carrick to play the first leg of the final. Taylors went 1-0 up but Paddys responded winning the next 3 to go 3-1 up. Taylors won the last game to leave the score 3-2.

Onto the doubles and Taylors found an extra gear and won all 3 leaving the score 5-3 to Taylors. Into last set and the first 2 games were split with David Moolick winning for Taylors and Barry Singleton for Paddys. Taylors then went 7-4 up through Brendan Murray but Enda Egan won the next to leave it 7-5. Kevin McWeeney won the last game of the night to leave the score 8-5.

Onto the second leg and and Taylors got the perfect start winning the first set 5-0 with wins for JJ McVeigh, Kevin McWeeney, Brendan Murray, David Moolick and Tommy Guckian. They only needed one more frame to lift the shield. The win was secured in the first game of doubles as JJ and Tommy won.

John Casey complemented both teams on the night and presented the shield to David Moolick Captain of Taylors. Brendan Murray was awarded man of the match trophy winning all his games in the final. Well done to Taylors and to Brendan.
